Cricket player Manpreet Singh Gony was born in India on January 4, 1984. He bats in the middle of the order right-handed and bowls with a medium pace. Gony declared his retirement from cricket in June 2019, with the exception of short-format competitions played abroad.

  • Manpreet Gony, a right-arm seamer who likes to hit the deck and is tall and well-built, broke into the Indian one-day side in 2008 thanks to his outstanding play in the Indian Premier League, where he finished fourth overall and led Chennai in wickets taken. 
  • In 2007–2008, he made his first-class debut for Punjab. He was reliable in the four-day matches, but he stood out in the one-day matches, one of the few shining lights in North Zone’s miserable Deodhar Trophy campaign, where he ultimately scored the most wickets.
  • During the 2007–2008 Ranji Trophy season, Manpreet Singh Gony made his Ranji Trophy debut for Punjab. Later, he was chosen to play for the Indian Premier League’s Chennai Super Kings.

  • In the 2008 Indian Premier League games, Gony has left his mark. For the Chennai Super Kings, he was a player. He was a top wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League and had a strong batting performance, hitting significant runs in the final overs. He contributed significantly to Chennai Super Kings’ triumph over Delhi Daredevils.
  • During the IPL competition, he grabbed 17 wickets in 16 games. The Chennai Super Kings, his squad, finished second in the IPL competition. He was purchased by Deccan Chargers for $290,000 for the 2011 IPL season. Later, Kings XI Punjab signed Gony for the IPL’s sixth season. Gony was given the opportunity to play in his first game, which he won with a 42-run innings off of just 18 balls and a strike rate of 233. He received the Man of the Match award for his outstanding batting display.

  • In place of Sreesanth, who was ruled out with a side strain for the Tri-Nation Series in Bangladesh, Gony was selected for the Indian cricket team.
  • Gony made history on March 25, 2012, when he bowled three first-overs in a professional Twenty20 game. Gony’s final stats for Punjab’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy quarterfinal victory over Madhya Pradesh were 4-3-5-3. He continues to share the record for the most first-over bowls in a single T20.
  • With 19 dismissals in five games, he was the top wicket-taker for Punjab in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy. He was purchased by the Gujarat Lions squad for 60 lakhs in February 2017 in preparation for the 2017 Indian Premier League. He was chosen to represent the Toronto Nationals franchise side in the Global T20 Canada event in June 2019. He was chosen by the Colombo Kings in the first round of the Lanka Premier League draught in October 2020.
