Suresh Kumar’s native place is Muradnagar in Uttar Pradesh. Suresh Kumar Raina was born into a Kashmiri Pandit family. His parents were from Rainawari. It is in the Srinagar district of Jammu and Kashmir. Raina resides in the Ghaziabad city district of Rajnagar. Dinesh Raina is his older brother.

At 15 years old, the team selected him for the U-19 tour to England. There he scored two half-centuries in the U-19 Test matches. He became the captain of the Uttar Pradesh U-16s. He gained notoriety among Indian selectors—17 teams.

Suresh Raina joined boarding school. Raina decided to play cricket in 2000. So, he relocated to Lucknow to enroll at the Guru Gobind Singh Sports College after leaving his village of Muradnagar in the Ghaziabad district. It happened in 1998.
