In a Rajput family, Yogi Adityanath was born on June 5, 1972, as Ajay Mohan Singh Bisht in the village of Panchur, Pauri Garhwal, Uttar Pradesh (now in Uttarakhand). Anand Singh Bisht, his deceased father, was a forest ranger. With four brothers and three sisters, he was the second child born into the family.

Since March 19, 2017, Yogi Adityanath, an Indian politician and Hindu monk, has held the position of Uttar Pradesh’s 21st and current chief minister.

Yogi Adityanath’s Early Life

Following the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2017 State Assembly elections, in which he was a prominent candidate, he was named the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on March 26, 2017.

He once more won the state assembly elections in 2022, becoming Uttar Pradesh’s chief minister for a second time and making history by becoming the first chief minister to return to power after serving a complete five years in office.

From 1998 to 2017, when he resigned to become the Chief Minister, he served five consecutive terms as a member of the Lok Sabha from the Uttar Pradesh district of Gorakhpur.

Around the 1990s, he relocated to join the drive for the Ayodhya Ram temple. At about the same time, Mahant Avaidyanath, the leader of the Gorakhnath Math, accepted him as a disciple.

The push for the Ayodhya Ram temple was being led at the time by Mahant Avaidyanath. After receiving his initiation, Adityanath settled in Gorakhpur but frequently traveled to his home village, opening a school there in 1998.

Yogi Adityanath’s Education

Being born in a Pandit family, Adityanath has served as the mahant (Head Priest) of the Gorakhnath Math, a Hindu monastery in Gorakhpur. He became the head priest after his spiritual father passed away. In addition, he founded the Hindu nationalist group Hindu Yuva Vahini. He portrays himself as a right-wing populist and a Hindutva nationalist.

He was born on June 5th, 1972 in Uttarakhand to a Gharwali Rajput family. He goes by Ajay Singh Bisht in real life. Anand Singh Bisht, his father, worked as a forest ranger.

He finished his primary education at the nearby Pauri and Rishikesh schools. Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University awarded him a mathematics bachelor’s degree.

Yogi Adityanath’s Political Career

In 1994, Yogi Adityanath was chosen to serve as the Gorakhnath Math’s chief priest. He was chosen to serve in the Lower House of the Indian Parliament after four years. He was the youngest member of the 12th Lok Sabha. For five years running, he has represented Gorakhpur in the Parliament. He also established Hindu Yuva Vahini, a youth organization.

He was elected to the 12th Lok Sabha in 1998 at the age of 26, making him the youngest member ever elected. In 1999–2000, he was re-elected to the 13th Lok Sabha for a second term.

The Committee on Food, Civil Supplies, and Public Distribution included him as a member. Member of the Ministry of Home Affairs Consultative Committee.

He actively supported the BJP in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. He was appointed chief minister of Uttar Pradesh in 2017 after the BJP won the state’s legislative elections.

When he came to power, he outlawed the use of cigarettes, pan, and gutka in the state of Uttar Pradesh. In the state, he also established anti-Romeo squads. As well, more than 100 police officers were suspended.

Yogi Adityanath’s Interests

He is particularly interested in spirituality and yoga. He supports the protection of cows’ cause. Additionally, he oversees Rashtra Raksha Abhiyan, which includes programs for gardening, religious discourses, bhajans, and visiting holy sites.
