Rajnish Kumar is an Indian banker. He had previously held the position of Chairman of the State Bank of India.

Introduction of Rajnish Kumar

Mr. Rajnish Kumar is a former Chairman of the State Bank of India (‘SBI’). He completed his tenure of 3 years as a Chairman in October 2020. He is often given the credit for helping the bank during very challenging times.

During his time, SBI developed YONO, an application-based digital platform, which helped SBI become an established bank as well as a worldwide leader by the adoption of technology and innovation.

He is currently serving as a Director at the Board of Light House Communities Foundation and as a member of the Board of Governors of Management Development Institute, Gurgaon. He is also an exclusive advisor of Kotak Investment Advisors Ltd. and a senior advisor to Barings Private Equity Asia Pte Ltd.

Personal life of Rajnish Kumar

Mr. Kumar was born in January 1958. He has done his M.Sc. in Physics from Meerut University and is also a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB). He holds a PGCBM certificate from XLRI, Jamshedpur.

Mr. Kumar loves to travel and has visited several countries. One of his favorite hobbies is sports with his favorite sport being badminton.

The career of Rajnish Kumar

He is a veteran banker as he has spent nearly four decades of service to SBI. His expertise in project finance and corporate credit is well known. He has served the bank in various capacities across the country including as Chief General Manager in the Northeast.
He has successfully managed the UK operations of the Bank right after the havoc caused by the collapse of Lehman Brothers.
Mr. Kumar has also acted as the Chairman of SBI’s subsidiaries, a few of the important ones being, SBI Foundation, SBI Capital Markets Limited, SBI Life Insurance Company Limited, and SBI Cards & Payments Services Limited.
He also served as Director on the boards of various organizations, such as the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection, National Institute of Bank Management, Pune, Indian Banks’ Association, Khadi & Village Industries Commission, Export-Import Bank of India, Indian Institute of Banking & Finance, among others.
Mr. Kumar has also been a member of the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s Advisory Council on Fintech for the Government of Maharashtra.
