Défense Ministers: Appointment, Role, Function & Organization Details
A Défense minister is a cabinet officer in charge of a ministry, which supervises sovereign states’ armed forces. Rajnath Singh is the existing Défense minister of India.
Introduction Défense Minister: The Government of India is charged with safeguarding India’s defense in its entirety. The President has the Supreme Command of the Armed Forces. The Cabinet bears responsibility for national defense.
This is carried out through the Ministry of Défense, which provides the policy framework and the means for the Armed Forces to carry out their obligations in the context of the country’s defense.

History of Défense Minister
In the year 1776, the Supreme Government of the East India Company established a Military Department in Kolkata, with the principal responsibility of sifting and recording orders relating to the Army issued by various Departments of the Govt of East India Co. The Military Department began as a section of the Public Department, keeping a registry of Army troops.
The Secretariat of the Government of the East India Company was reorganized with the Charter Act of 1833 into four Departments, including a Military Department, each headed by a Secretary to the Government. The Army in the Presidencies of Bengal, Bombay, and Madras served as their Presidency Armies until April 1895, when the Presidency Armies were merged into a single Indian Army.
Role of Défense Minister
The main role of the Défense Ministry is to obtain the Government’s policy directions on all defender security issues and communicate them to the Services Headquarters, Inter-Services Organizations, Production Establishments, and Research and Development Organizations for implementation. It is also essential to ensure the successful implementation of the Government’s policy directions and the execution of approved programs within the budgetary constraints.

The Ministry of Défense is divided into five departments: the Department of Défense, the Department of Défense Production, the Department of Défense Research and Development, the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, and the Finance Division.
Strength of the Indian Défense System
The Indian Armed Forces are managed by the Government of India’s Ministry of Défense. It boasts the world’s second-biggest military force and the world’s largest volunteer army, with over 1.4 million active personnel. It also boasts the world’s third-largest defense budget.

An initiative of the Défense Minister
The SRIJAN is a platform developed by the MoD to accept imported products for indigenization. According to the Ministry, it will display recently imported Défense equipment and will collaborate with the Défense Public Sector Undertakings, Ordnance Factory Board, and others to promote domestic manufacture for future exports.
