Rajat Kapoor Early & Personal Life: Rajat Kapoor, an Indian actor, screenwriter, and director who specialises in Hindi cinema, was born on February 11, 1961. Delhi, India is where Kapoor was born. He first mostly concentrated on acting. He entered the theatre company Chingari in 2013. 

Meenal Agarwal is a photographer and production designer whom Kapoor wed in 1996. She has two children, a son Vivan, and a daughter Rabia.

He moved to Delhi in 2013 to join the theatre company Chingari before relocating to Pune to enroll in the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).

Career and Films of Rajat Kapoor

Kapoor made his cinematic breakthrough in the 1989 Kumar Shahani movie Khayal Gatha, which was produced by Parallel Cinema. Kapoor started writing as well as directing short films when he struggled to secure actor roles in the 1990s.

He made his full-length directing debut with the 1997 film Private Detective: Two Plus Two Plus One, which featured Naseeruddin Shah and Irrfan Khan in supporting parts.

In the 2001 film Dil Chahta Hai, which also starred Aamir Khan as the uncle of Preity Zinta’s character, Kapoor made his hugely popular debut.

He garnered widespread acclaim for his role as an abusive uncle in Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding. Ever since, he has written, directed, and starred in numerous critically acclaimed films, such as Corporate, Bheja Fry, and The Last Days of the Raj for UK television in 2007. He also played Muhammad Ali Jinnah in that film.

At the 2008 Asia Pacific Screen Awards, he was also up for Best Performance by an Actor for Siddharth: The Prisoner. He co-starred with Konkona Sen in the Bengali film Iti Mrinalini (2010), which was helmed by renowned Bengali filmmaker Aparna Sen. Vinay Pathak and Ranvir Shorey, who are both actors, frequently work with Kapoor.

Awards Associated With Rajat Kapoor

Kapoor has won three National Awards: first for Tarana, a 26-minute non-feature documentary; second for Hypothesis, a short; and third for Raghu Romeo, a Hindi-language feature film.

Recent Updates about Rajat Kapoor 

Two women accused Kapoor of sexual harassment in October 2018 amid the Me Too movement, and he later apologized. Due to the charges, his movie Kadakh was disqualified from the 20th MAMI Film Festival.

In 2020, the movie was released. He served as an investigative officer for Scam 1992.
