Three semiconductor plants, including a megafab by Tata Group, have been approved by the Cabinet at a cumulative investment of Rs 1.26 lakh crore. In partnership with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp, Tata Electronics Pvt Ltd will establish a semiconductor factory in Dholera, Gujarat.

The government has also approved a proposal by Tatas to build a greenfield semiconductor assembly and test facility in Jagiroad, Assam, with a capacity of 50,000 wafers per month.

It is expected to generate over 27,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region with an investment of Rs 27,000 crore.
