About Pragyan Ojha: Pragyan Ojha, born on September 5 1986, is a left-handed tail-ender batsman and an attacking slow left-arm orthodox bowler. He later played for Hyderabad in the national Ranji Trophy and appeared as a guest player for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy for a season or two (2015/16-2016/17). In the ICC Player Rankings, he has achieved his career-high ranking of World No. 5.

He is also the first spinner to be awarded the Highest wicket-taker in the IPL. He joined the Bihar national side as a guest player for the 2018/19 Ranji Trophy season.

He decided to move to Hyderabad from Odisha at the age of 13 and chose cricket as his career there under the tutelage of his coach, T Vijay Paul.

He made his first-class debut in 2004/05 and also symbolized the Indian team at the under-19 level. He played for Hyderabad for 11 seasons, beginning with the 2004-05 Ranji season, before moving to Bengal as a guest player.

Ojha made his International debut against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup on June 28, 2008, in Karachi, a game that India easily won, with Ojha finishing with statistics of 2/43.

He made a spectacular T20I debut against Bangladesh in the 2009 World Cup T20, finishing with 4/21 and being named man of the match.

In the second Test of Sri Lanka’s 2009 tour of India, he made his Test debut at Kanpur, where India ended up winning by an innings, with Ojha taking four wickets.

He made an impression in the 2009 IPL for the Deccan Chargers, who went on to win the championship. Because of his performance in the IPL, he made his debut in all three formats in less than a year. He was named Player of the Match in Sachin Tendulkar’s farewell Test against the Windies in 2013 at the Wankhede Stadium.

Pragyan was born in the Indian state of Odisha. He relocated to Hyderabad when he was 13 years old and has lived there ever since with his family. Maheswar Ojha (pensioned State Government Officer) and Bidulata Ojha are his parents (M.A in Literature).

On May 16, 2010, he married Karabee Baral, the daughter of English as well as Foreign Languages University lecturers Chanchala Naik and Kailash Chandra Baral.

  • Ojha was named player of the match in his unveiling T20 match against Bangladesh in the 2009 ICC World Twenty20, scoring 4/21. On June 6, 2009. Ojha was named Player of the Match for his exceptional statistics of 5/40 and 5/49 against the West Indies in Sachin’s final and 200th test series, 14-16 November 2013.
  • On April 23, 2010, Ojha was named IPL Jury’s Best Spinner at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Mumbai.
  • On August 4, 2013, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik provided Ojha with a memento for completing 100 Test Wickets.
