Microsoft’s $2.9 Billion Investment in Japan: In the next two years, Microsoft will invest $2.9 billion in its cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure in Japan.

Brad Smith announced on Tuesday after meeting Japanese Prime Minister Kishida, who is in the US for the first time in nine years.

On Friday, the Japanese leader will visit Toyota Motor Corp.’s battery plant and Honda Aircraft Co.’s factory.

Compared to Canada and the UK, Japan invested $775.2 billion in the US in 2022, according to the US Bureau of Economic Analysis.

As part of its digital training programs, Microsoft will provide AI skills to more than 3 million people within three years, the company said. In addition to expanding its cybersecurity collaboration with the Japanese government, it plans to open a lab in Japan focused on artificial intelligence and robotics.

The US and Japan will hold a summit on Wednesday to talk about defense, economic security, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing.

Kishida urged American business executives to invest more in Asia’s second largest economy on Tuesday.

During a roundtable with business leaders in Washington, Kishida said, “Your investments will help Japan grow.”
