Elon Musk Predicts AI Will Surpass Human Intelligence by 2026: Elon Musk predicted artificial general intelligence (AGI) will surpass human intelligence by 2026 in a recent interview on X Spaces. Musk said it’s crucial to have enough electricity to advance AI.

Furthermore, he discussed the difficulties faced by his startup, xAI, in training the next version of their AI chatbot, Grok, due to a shortage of advanced chips.

If you define AGI (artificial general intelligence) as smarter than the smartest human, then I think it would be next year, within two years,” Musk told Reuters.

Despite Musk’s ongoing legal battle with OpenAI, which he co-founded, he predicts this prediction will happen because of alleged deviations from its original mission. As Musk’s remarks indicate, AI development has ethical implications and could have societal impacts.

Nonetheless, this is not the first time he has discussed AI and humans. Recently, he asserted that AI would surpass the intelligence of the entire human race by 2029.

In response to a recent podcast hosted by Joe Rogan, Musk wrote in his post on X, “AI will probably be smarter than any single human next year. By 2029, AI will probably be smarter than all humans combined.”

However, Musk thinks AI could also be dangerous for people. But he still believes the benefits outweigh the risks, Business Insider reported. Musk explained how he calculated the risks.

“I think there’s some chance that it will end humanity. I probably agree with Geoff Hinton that it’s about 10 percent or 20 percent or something like that. I think that the probable positive scenario outweighs the negative scenario,” he said.

In a recent interview, Musk said he believes AI will be smarter than humans by 2030. Although he’s hopeful about the benefits of AI, he also believes it could bring some negative consequences.

In order to make supersmart AI, Musk said, it’s essential to teach it to always tell the truth and be curious, similar to raising a really smart child. The easiest way for Musk to keep AI safe is to make sure that it always tells the truth.

He cautioned against teaching AI to lie since it’s difficult to stop once it starts. Our usual safety rules might not work if AI learns to lie, according to a study he spoke about.
