Kuldeep Yadav was born on December 14, 1994. The Delhi Capitals acquired his services for the 2022 Indian Premier League. He has competed for India’s cricket under-19 team.

About Kuldeep Yadav: He accomplished a first for India by recording two hat-tricks against the West Indies on December 18, 2019. Yadav, the son of a brick kiln owner, was born and reared in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He acknowledged in an interview that his father had encouraged him to keep playing cricket and had even taken him to a coach (Kapil Pandey).

He aspired to play left-arm seam bowling after watching bowling legends, Wasim Akram and Zaheer Khan. 

  • His instructor encouraged him to become a wrist-spin bowler despite his frail build since he was amazed at the turns and variations he unwittingly contributed at the tryouts. Since then, he has made Shane Warne his idol and has started watching and copying him while he bowls.
  • Yadav also disclosed that, earlier in his life, after being passed over for the Uttar Pradesh under-15 squad, he contemplated quitting cricket and taking his own life.
  • Yadav participated in the 2012 Champions League Twenty20 as a member of the Mumbai Indians team before being acquired by the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014.
  • Yadav was repurchased by KKR at the 2018 IPL auction in January 2018.
  • He was purchased by the Delhi Capitals in the 2022 Indian Premier League auction in February of that year.

Kuldeep Yadav International Career

  • Yadav was chosen to play for India against the West Indies in a cricket match in October 2014, however, he did not take part in any of the games.
  • For their one-off encounter against Bangladesh in February 2017, he was a member of India’s Test squad.
  • In June 2017, Yadav was a part of the Indian limited-overs team that traveled to the West Indies.
  • He participated in India’s inaugural One Day International (ODI) match against the West Indies on June 23, 2017.
  • On July 3, 2018, Yadav earned his first five-for in a T20I and became the first left-arm wrist-spinner to take five wickets in a T20I during the opening T20I against England. He joined Yuzvendra Chahal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar as the third Indians to do so.
  • On July 12, 2018, Yadav won his maiden five-wicket haul in the opening ODI against England. He also set a new record for the greatest bowling figures (6/25) ever recorded by a left-arm spinner in an ODI.
  • On October 6, 2018, Yadav took five wickets in a Test for the first time against the West Indies.
  • In Australia’s first innings of the fourth Test against Australia at the SCG on January 6, 2019, Yadav claimed his second five-wicket haul (5/99), his second in Tests. 
  • Yadav rose to second place in the T20I Bowlers Rankings on February 11, 2019.
