History of Aviation Minister: The ministry is also in charge of implementing the Aircraft Act of 1934, the Aircraft Rules of 1937, and the Commission on Railway Safety. On the advice of the Pande Committee, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) was established as a Cell inside the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in January 1978.

On April 1, 1987, the BCAS was reconstituted as an autonomous department under the Ministry of Civil Aviation. India now has 39 airlines in operation, including scheduled, regional, chartered, and cargo carriers.

The scheduled airlines are the dominant carriers, accounting for the vast bulk of domestic market share. The bulk of these scheduled airlines is in the low-cost market.

Role of Aviation Minister 

In India, the Agency of Civil Aviation is the central ministry in charge of developing national policies and programs for civil aviation development and regulation. It develops and implements plans for the country’s civil air transport to grow and expand in a planned manner. Its responsibilities also include the oversight of airport facilities, air traffic services, and the air transportation of passengers and commodities.

In the air transport industry, including airlines and their supply chains, SAR is estimated to contribute $13 billion to India’s GDP. 

Composition of Aviation Minister

Union Minister Jyoti Aditya Scindia and Minister of State V. K. Singhares oversee the aviation ministry. The secretary, an IAS officer, is the administrative head of the ministry and is aided by one additional secretary and financial adviser, three joint secretaries, seven directors/deputy secretaries/financial controllers, and ten undersecretaries. It is in New Delhi at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, Safdarjung Airport.

Current news regarding the Ministry of Civil Aviation 

Union minister Jyoti Aditya Scindia said in Pune on Friday that safety and security were “paramount” in the aviation sector, and that the civil aviation ministry has introduced a “highly ambitious and aggressive” annual surveillance plan of 3,709 checks for 2022-23. The civil aviation minister was responding to media inquiries about recent cases of technical difficulties affecting aircraft.

The airline, as well as the regulator, has the main responsibility for airplane safety. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the civil aviation ministry place the highest priority on safety and security “He stated.
