CM Shinde Allocates Rs 5 Lakh to Families of Mob Lynching Victims: Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde gave three families, including two sadhus, cheques for Rs 5 lakh each. The people they belonged to were killed by a mob in Palghar district in 2020.

He gave them the checks while he was at a party in Virar on Saturday.

They were Sadhus Kalpavriksha Giri Maharaj (70), Sushil Giri Maharaj (35) and Nilesh Telgade (30), who was driving them. They were killed by a mob as they drove through Gadchinchale village late at night on April 16, 2019, during the COVID-19 lockdown.

At the time, the case was all over the news across the country, and several people who were reportedly part of the 500-person mob were caught and are now on trial.

Shinde said that Uddhav Thackeray, who was chief minister at the time, had never taken the time to meet the families of these three people.

Shinde said that his Shiv Sena has now helped them with money it has on hand.
