André Braugher Cause of Death: André Braugher has died. He was an Emmy-winning actor who played lead roles in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” on NBC and the police thriller “Homicide: Life on the Street” in the 1990s. He was 61 years old.

Jennifer Allen, Braugher’s longtime spokeswoman, told USA TODAY on Tuesday that the story was true. Based on an obituary that Allen shared, the star passed away Monday after a short sickness.

Braugher was born in Chicago in 1962 and went to Stanford and Juilliard. His big break came in the 1989 movie “Glory,” which stars Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman.

He became known, though, when he was cast as Det. Frank Pembleton in “Homicide,” an NBC police thriller based on a book by David Simon, who would later create “The Wire.” He played the part for seven seasons. The actor has been nominated for 11 Emmys and got his first award for best lead actor in a drama series in 1998 for his role as Pembleton in “Homicide.”

Because of his part in “Homicide,” Andre Braughter got his first Emmy for best lead actor in a drama series in 1998.
He won his second Emmy in 2006 for his role as Nick Atwater in the FX program “Thief.” It was for best lead actor in a miniseries or movie.

Years later, he played a very different kind of cop on a very different kind of show. He became Capt. Raymond Holt on Andy Samberg’s comic show “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” It would air on Fox and NBC for eight years, from 2013 to 2021.

As an actor, Braugher was used to dark and serious stories. Even though he tried his hand at comedy in the TNT thriller “Men of a Certain Age,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” was a big change for him.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Braugher said, “I just felt like it was a chance to do something very different from the rest of my career.” “I like it because it makes me think about things in a new way.” In that way, I think I’ve become a lot more flexible as an actor and more open to the huge number of ways I can play a scene.

He was nominated for four Emmys for his role as the sarcastic Capt. Holt on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Lo Truglio, Dirk Blocker, and Joel McKinnon Miller were also on the popular show.

“I love working on comedies so much.” He said this when he was nominated for his first Emmy in 2014 for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” “And telling the kind of stories that make people laugh,” “It’s always the kind of thing I hoped for but never thought would happen to me.”

After his work with “Salt” with Angelina Jolie in 2010, he worked with “Passengers” with Anne Hathaway in 2008.

In the 2022 thriller “She Said,” he played New York Times Executive Editor Dean Baquet, who was in charge of reporters Megan Twohey (Carey Mulligan) and Jodi Kantor (Zoe Kazan), who in 2017 revealed Harvey Weinstein’s history of sexual harassment in Hollywood. In many ways, working on “Homicide” changed Braugher’s life. The actor met Ami Brabson on the NBC show, where she played his wife. They got married in 1991 and have three boys together: Michael, Isaiah, and John Wesley.
