The result of India vs Sri Lanka match in World Cup 2023 was completely one-sided as Men-in Blue crushed the Lankan batsmen with a storming billowing spell by pacer Mohammed Shami at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Thursday. Shami emerged like a wave and swept away 5 wickets in the match powering team India to receive a victory by an unbelievable margin of 302 runs. Shami, who came onto the scene after Hardik Pandya got injured, surprised cricket experts with his consistency. The entire Sri Lankan team collapsed in front of the Indian pacers. Shami did wonders in his third match. Shami took 8 wickets for 18 runs in 5 overs.

Sri Lanka’s innings collapsed like a pack of cards

Batting first at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, Kohli played brilliant innings of 88 runs, Shubman Gill scored 92 runs and Shreyas Iyer made 82 runs. The outstanding batting performances powered India to put a huge total of 357 runs after losing 8 wickets.

In reply, the first 5 wickets of Sri Lankan team, who came to bat, fell in less than 10 runs. For a moment it seemed as if Sri Lanka would not be able to complete even 20 runs.

Shami was raining fire with his unbeatable swing and pace. Bumrah and Siraj also displayed class bowling.

Shami achieved a milestone with hauling 5 wickets in the match. He became the most wickets takers for India in the World Cup, also broke Harbhajan Singh’s record. He also became the first Indian bowler to take 5 wickets 4 times. Harbhajan Singh had done this thrice. After making this record, Shami also gestured humorously to Harbhajan Singh sitting in the commentary box from the field.

Along with Harbhajan’s record, Shami also broke Zaheer Khan’s record of most wickets for India in the World Cup. At present Shami has 45 wickets in the World Cup.
