Upendra Jethalal Trivedi is an Indian film, stage actor, director, and producer. He was one of the most prolific actors in Gujarati cinema, well known for his acting in the Industry.

Upendra Trivedi Introduction: Upendra Trivedi was born on 14 July 1936 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. In his early life, he lived in Mumbai with his elder brother. He also worked as a coolie and a labourer in an umbrella manufacturing factory when his father, a mill worker, suffered paralysis.

He also received the Padma Shri in 1989 and the Pandit Omkarnath Thakur award. He was also politically active. He was also known as Abhinay Samrat. He died on 4 January 2015 in Mumbai due to respiratory arrest.

Upendra Trivedi Acting Career

Trivedi had acted in both Gujarati theatre and films. Upendra Trivedi used to work in several dramas during his college life in Mumbai. He started his career in Industry in the 1970s and had a career spanning more than four decades.

He initially played supporting roles in several Gujarati films to earn money and pay college fees. He acted in films like Vanraj Chavdo and Mehndi Rang Lagyo.

He got his first significant break in the Gujarati film industry in 1971 when he was signed for Jesal Toral by Ravindra Dave. He also directed several Gujarati films. His Mancini Bhavai(1993), based on the novel of the same name by Gujarati author Pannalal Patel won the National award.

He paired with Naresh Kanodia for the first time in the film Maa Baap ne Bhulso Nahi in 1999. He paired with Snehlata in several Gujarati movies. He played seven different roles in the Gujarati play Abhinay Samrat. He also directed and produced Jher To Peedhan Jani.

Upendra Trivedi Political Career

Upendra Trivedi joined politics in the 1980s. He won the election in 1985 and 1990 with an INC ticket and in 1998 as an independent candidate for Gujarat Legislative Assembly from Bhilodi. He served as the assembly’s deputy speaker from 31 March 2000 to 19 July 2002.

Upendra Trivedi Family Background 

His family hailed from Kukadia village near Idar, Gujarat. His parents moved to Ujjain, where he completed his education. Trivedi was one of four siblings.

His younger brother, Arvind Trivedi, is also an actor well known for his role of Ravana in the Hindi epic TV serial Ramayana. Trivedi’s elder brother, Bhalchandra, was an educationist.
