South Korea’s Government Deploying 7000 AI-Robot Dolls: Around 7,000 AI-Robot dolls have been deployed to seniors and dementia patients by South Korea’s local governments.

Around 7,000 Hyodol dolls have been deployed by the South Korean government to keep elderly people company and remind them to take their medications. Loneliness among senior citizens is a growing problem in South Korea.

South Korea recently invested $1 billion in AI research and AI semiconductors. In addition to tackling loneliness, Hyodal’s $1,800 robot doll reminds users to take their medication and hold full conversations.

How can Hyodol dolls be used?

The dolls may look like cuddly soft toys, but their advanced language processing and ability to recognize emotions, talk, and play music can provide some form of engagement for the elderly.

Hyodol, according to the company, is an artificial intelligence care robot that offers seniors customized care based on the data collected through living and conversing with them. According to the company’s website, Hyodol provides digitally disadvantaged individuals with the convenience of digital technology to live happier and healthier lives. According to the company, it uses an Emotional AI system for emotional care that feels familiar and realistic.

Caretakers can remotely monitor the doll with a companion app and web monitoring platform, and it can hold full conversations. In addition, it comes with safety features that can alert you when you don’t move for a certain amount of time. In essence, the doll is always watching you.

There are also touch interactions, check-ins, a health coach, voice messages, 24-hour voice reminders, music, quizzes, exercise suggestions, and more. Additionally, caregivers will be able to send and receive voice messages, make group announcements, and monitor motion detection through the app.

Through health Q&A, the robot also continuously monitors the health condition of its users.

This demographic shift is putting significant pressure on South Korea’s care sector, its shrinking workforce, and its pension and healthcare systems as the country’s citizens grow older.

To determine the impact this has on people who need companionship the most, the AI robot doll company has collected data from numerous studies.

One study by Hyodol found that depression levels reduced from 5.73 to 3.14, and medicine intake improved from 2.69 to 2.87.

Besides motion detection, other features include touch interaction, 24-hour voice reminders, check-ins, voice messages, a health coach, quizzes, exercise, music, and more.

With the large language model that has been integrated into the AI robot, it can hold conversations.

In addition, the AI robots can be linked to smart home devices and come with an interface for easy interaction with all users. They provide convenient, easy-to-manage, and easy-to-develop intelligent services.

Since SK has one of the world’s lowest birth rates and an aging population, it makes sense for local governments to be early adopters.
