Former Indian athlete Pilavullakandi Thekkeraparambil Usha was born on June 27, 1964. She is popularly recognized as the identity of Queen of Indian track and field.

PT Usha Biography

Introduction of PT Usha: The city of Kozhikode, in the Indian state of Kerala, is the place of birth of PT Usha. She has served the Indian sports community in several roles since 1979. She has four gold medals and seven silver medals from Asian competitions. The title “Queen of Indian track and field” is owned by PT Usha because of her continuous hard work and determination. Her nomination to the Rajya Sabha was made by former President Ram Nath Kovind on July 6, 2022.

Personal life of PT Usha

She studied at Kozhikode’s Providence Women’s College. Usha tied the knot with V. Srinivasan, an inspector with the Central Industrial Security Force in 1991. They have a small boy as a child together.

Achievements of PT Usha

She was a member of India’s 4 × 1100-meter relay team at the 1998 Asian Athletics Championships, with Valdivel Jayalakshmi, Rachita Mistry, and E.B. Shyla.

Her squad not only triumphed but also established a new national mark of 44.43 seconds, which stands as the quickest time ever for this competition.

The career of PT Usha

Usha was originally seen by athletics coach O. M. Nambiar in 1977 during a prize-giving ceremony for several sports. He recalled that from the start, I knew she possessed the speed and agility to become a top sprinter.” He took on the role of her coach the same year.

She quickly had success, winning six gold in the 1978 junior interstate competition in Kollam. She swept the high jump, the 60-meter hurdles, the 100- and 200-meter races, and won four gold medals overall.

She also won a bronze medal in the 4 100 m relay and a silver medal in the long jump. She competed in the yearly Kerala State College meet and returned with a whopping 14 medals.

She then went on to set several records in the 1980 National inter-state meet in addition to the many medals she won at the 1979 National Games.

In 1981, Usha established new national marks in the 100 and 200 meters in the senior inter-state meet in Bangalore, clocking in at 11.8 and 24.6 seconds, respectively.
