Nitish Kumar apologizes on his remarks on women, gives clarification

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday has apologized after his controversial comments on women created a huge outrage. He said his statement was misinterpreted. If anything I said was wrong, I apologize, he added.

What did Nitish Kumar say?

Nitish Kumar was addressing the Bihar Assembly on Tuesday regarding the caste-based survey report when he made the controversial statement.

“Ladaki padh legee agar, to jab shaadee hoga. tab purush roj raat mein karata hai na. usee mein aur (bachche) paida ho jaata hai. ladaki agar padh legee to usako bheetar mat …,…, usako …. kar do. isee mein sankhya ghat rahee hai.’

After the CM’s statement everyone, be it BJP or the public on social media, started attacking Nitish fiercely. Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey also expressed objection to Nitish Kumar’s comments on women in the assembly.

On the other hand, Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Tejashwi Yadav has defended Nitish’s statement, saying the matter was related to sex education and it is being taught in the schools as well.

Is Nitish’s statement an insult to any woman?

Everyone has freedom of speech inside the House. What Nitish Kumar said in the House is a common statement. No woman has been mentioned by name. In such a situation, no legal action can be taken. There is no case of breach of privilege against them. However, morally, Nitish’s statement is wrong.
