Nikki Haley Requests Secret Service Protection Amidst Threats

Nikki Haley Requests Secret Service Protection: Reports say that Indian-American presidential candidate Nikki Haley, who is currently Donald Trump’s only rival in the Republican primary race, has asked the US Secret Service to protect her because she is receiving more and more threats.
CNN reported that Haley’s campaign said he had asked for Secret Service security but did not say when the request was made.

It was also not made clear what threats led to the request by the campaign.
The Secret Service will only protect someone if the Secretary of Homeland Security gives the order after consulting with a group of lawmakers.
In the past few months, there have been reports of two swattings at Haley’s home in South Carolina. One of the events happened while her parents were there.
Haley, who is governor of South Carolina, uses personal protection while running for office. There are also cops from the area at events.

When asked about the extra protection at her events, Haley told reporters in Columbia, South Carolina, last week, “when you do something like this, you get threats.” That’s just the truth, and that’s fine. “When you run for public office, you have to deal with the threats that come with it.” At the time, Haley said, “That won’t stop me.” “Does that mean we need to add some more people?” That’s fine, thank you. Since about a week ago, Haley has had extra protection around her. Haley told the Wall Street Journal on Monday that her campaign has “had a number of problems.”She said, “It’s not going to stop me from doing what I need to do.”
Trump, 77, has told Haley, who is behind Trump in the polls, to drop out of the race and unite the party against Democrat Joe Biden.
Federal law says that “major” candidates can get protection from the Secret Service when it looks like they will be their party’s choice.
Trump is protected by the Secret Service for life because he was president of the US.
Since there were more and more threats against Senator Barack Obama in May 2007, he was put under security by a congressional committee.
