About Naman Ojha: Despite his flashy approach and string of solid performances, Ojha was never able to establish himself as the first-choice wicket-keeper and spent nearly a decade on the bench. Only after Dhoni announced his retirement from Test cricket did Ojha have an opportunity to make his Test debut against Sri Lanka in 2015.

However, scouts have not always been tough on him. He was allowed to represent India in ODIs in a tri-series in Zimbabwe in 2005 when he began the innings and was out for 1.

That was his first and only ODI appearance for India. He also played a few T20Is on the same trip, but his efforts, especially his results, were never enough to gain him a permanent spot on the Indian side. Even now, he is not the first-choice wicket-keeper and only plays Tests when Wriddhiman Saha is unavailable.

Homeland performance of Naman Ojha

Despite his low international record, Naman has been outstanding on the home circuit. After excelling in the 2008-09 Challenger Trophy, his performances were restrained for a spell before he returned with a thunderous 2013-14 season for his home team Madhya Pradesh, hitting 835 runs – his most significant ever.

The 33-year-old is the second-choice wicket-keeper these days and would need to score heavily to move up a level and challenge Wriddhiman for the Test slot.

Critics against Naman Ojha

Critics may claim that Wriddhiman Saha is the best wicketkeeper, but Ojha’s ability to score freely prevents the Bengal keeper from taking the top rank. Ojha may have had to wait a long time for his Test debut, but his ODI debut came in 2010 in Zimbabwe during a triangular series against Sri Lanka. Ojha was a member of the Cruisers Hyderabad team that won the Indian Premier League in 2016.
