He met Music Director Kalyanji Anandji through his brother-in-law, who was producing a Gujarati movie in Mumbai. Udhas used to spend time with Kalyanji Anandji and help them record songs. Mukesh, the vocalist, was once unavailable right away.

Therefore, it was agreed to record the song in Udhas’ voice and have Mukesh later sing over it. For the 1969 movie Vishwas, the song was “aap se humko bichhade hue zamana beet gaya.” Mukesh commented after hearing the song that Udhas had sung it flawlessly and that he didn’t need to record it in his voice.
