Verizon’s 5G internet plans go wrong

You can find out more about the two Verizon 5G internet deals and choose the one that works best for you.

Verizon 5G Home

When paired with a suitable phone plan, the Verizon 5G Home plan starts at $35 per month. The monthly price for just internet is $50 if you want autopay and paperless bills, or $60 if you don’t. If you bundle with a postpaid phone plan, the price is fixed for five years. If you don’t, it’s only good for two years.

The download speeds are between 85 and 300 Mbps, which is fast enough for streaming, games, and browsing the web. However, if you connect too many devices at once, you may experience buffering or lag. You can upload up to 10 Mbps, but it may take longer to upload big files like photos or videos. Overall, the Verizon 5G Home plan is a good choice if you want a stable price and fast internet for up to eight devices.

Pros

  • Easy to connect
  • Not any deals
  • Price promise for two to five years
  • Internet for everyone
  • No fees for equipment

Cons

  • Less fast uploads
  • No viewing in 4K

Verizon 5G Home Plus

With a certain phone plan, Verizon 5G Home Plus costs $45 a month. Home Plus on its own costs $70 a month with autopay and paperless bills, and $80 a month without those features. Bundling with a cell phone plan locks in the price of the internet for five years. If you don’t bundle, the price only stays the same for three years. The fastest plan lets you download files up to three times faster, at speeds of 300 to 1,000 Mbps (1 Gig). You can upload up to 50 Mbps, which is five times faster than the main rate.

With this speed boost, the Home Plus plan can connect more devices and do everything the regular plan can do. The Home Plus plan is better for homes that need more Wi-Fi access because it comes with a Wi-Fi extender. Verizon 5G Home Plus comes with Verizon Cloud Unlimited for free, which usually costs $19.99 a month. You and up to five other people can store photos and movies on Verizon Cloud. If you already pay for Apple iCloud, this will save you money.

Pros

  • The fastest 5G service
  • Price promise for three to five years
  • No limits on data
  • 4K video stream
  • Expander for Wi-Fi
  • Verizon Cloud access for everyone

Cons

  • $10–$20 more a month than the base plan, or more if you add phone service.

Verizon 5G Internet vs. top internet providers

Verizon 5G Home Internet is not the same as Verizon Fios Internet. Verizon Fios is an internet service that uses fiber optics and is offered in eight states and Washington, D.C. The internet speeds for both are good, up to 1 Gig. 5G services, on the other hand, share connections, so speeds change depending on how busy the network is. Fiber, on the other hand, is more reliable because it is a dedicated link.

Verizon’s 5G home internet is different from fiber, cable, and satellite internet in the following ways:

  • Why fiber internet is usually better than 5G internet: fiber internet is faster, more reliable, and lets you use as much data as you want. With Google Fiber and other fiber providers, speeds can hit 8,000 Mbps, or 8 Gig. But with these luxury fiber services, the monthly cost will also go up. For instance, Google Fiber, Kinetic by Windstream, and Frontier Fiber all offer 1 Gig internet for as little as $60 to $70 per month. This does not include any extra costs for setup, equipment rental, or ETFs.
  • Verizon 5G on its own costs $50 a month and doesn’t come with any contracts or ETFs.
  • 5G vs. cable internet: Cable internet can start at much lower annual costs than 5G, but the sale prices may not last as long. Mediacom, WOW!, and Xfinity all offer internet rates that start at less than $30 a month for a year. It’s also easy for secret costs like taxes, surcharges, and equipment fees to add up quickly. Together, cable and 5G are like a shared link that might slow down when the network is busy. Most of the time, though, lag is less obvious with cable internet than with 5G services.
  • 5G vs. satellite internet: 5G home internet has many advantages over satellite internet, including endless data, no contracts, faster speeds, and lower prices. For satellites, the startup fee is usually $100, the equipment rental fee is $10 to $15 per month, and the ETFs cost $400. Also, the fastest speeds you can get with satellite internet are about 150 Mbps, and it costs between $50 and $200 a month. Going with Verizon 5G Home for $50 a month and getting speeds of up to 300 Mbps is a better deal because you get more for your money.

Verizon customer service

The American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) did not give Verizon 5G Home Internet an exact score for 2022–2023. Verizon Wireless, on the other hand, got a score of 73 out of 100 for all cell network operators.
