People celebrate this day to stop people from having unfairly negative feelings about other cultures and countries, which can lead to violence, hate, and social isolation. Today is a reminder that all countries should get along, even if they have different religions or cultures. The day brings attention to how important family is and asks that this idea be applied to everyone.
The History of World Family Day
As people worked to make the world a better place near the end of the 20th century, Global Family Day grew. The International Decade for the Culture of Peace and Nonviolence for the Children of the World was first thought of by the UN General Assembly in 1997.
The launch of Linda Grover’s book “One Day in Peace – January 1, 2000” was an important step toward this goal. The book and the program that started the decade of peace were both based on the idea that one day there might be no more war in the world.
As the idea for the decade of peace grew, all UN member states were asked to make January 1, 2000, their official day to work toward maintaining peace around the world. The UN chose to make the day an annual event starting in 2001, when it was called Global Family Day. This was done because the day was so popular and well-known.
A peaceful community is built on families that are healthy in all ways, including their bodies, minds, and finances. The idea is that peaceful neighborhoods lead to peaceful nations, which should make the world a better place in the end.
