Introduction to Eknath Shinde

Eknath Shinde is a senior politician in India and the current Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He has served in the Indian Parliament for over many years and has been a key player in several of India’s most important economic and political developments.

Eknath Shinde is the 20th Chief Minister of Maharashtra after the resignation of former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.

The early life of Eknath Shinde

Eknath Shinde has been married to Lata Shinde since 1966 and the couple has three children- two sons and one daughter. Shinde was born on 9th February 1940 in a poor family in Kolhapur, Maharashtra.

After completing his schooling in Kolhapur, he studied at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Shinde then went on to study law at the University of Mumbai and the University of Edinburgh, where he earned a master’s degree in law.

Eknath Shinde used to drive an auto rickshaw to earn a living for his family before entering politics.

After returning to India, Shinde began his career as a civil servant. He began working for the state of Maharashtra in 1964 and later served in several other ministerial positions in the government of former Prime Minister Morarji Desai.

In 1989, Shinde was elected to the Indian Parliament and has since then served in various roles in the government of the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Career of Eknath Shinde

Shinde entered politics in 2004 when he won a seat in the Indian Parliament as a BJP candidate. He served as Maharashtra’s Chief Minister from 2002 to 2004.

He was then elected to the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament, in 2014. During his time in the Rajya Sabha, he served as the Chairman of the Committee on Defence.

Shinde has also been a member of the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament, since 2004. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and is currently the Minister of State for External Affairs in the Narendra Modi-led government.

Achievements of Eknath Shinde

For the first time in 1977, he was elected as a corporator in Thane municipal corporation.
Later in 2001, he was elected to the post of the leader of the house in the corporation.
In 2009, Eknath was appointed as a member of the legislative assembly for the 2nd time.
In 2018, he was appointed as leader of the Shiv Sena Party. Then in 2019, He was cabinet minister of public health and family welfare.
