Bihar government will soon invite applications for the recruitment of about 70,000 teachers in middle, secondary and senior secondary schools of the state. In a letter dated October 6, the state education department sought approval from the Accountant General regarding the new recruitment drive against a total of 69,692 trained graduate teachers (TGTs) and postgraduate teachers (PGTs) vacancies.

After getting the approval from the Accountant General, the Education Department will issue an official order and Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) will start the registration process for the new Bihar Teacher Recruitment Drive 2023. The registration process for new teacher recruitment will start as soon as BPSC completes the ongoing recruitment campaign of 1.70 lakh teachers.

On September 19, the Bihar Cabinet approved the proposal to recruit 69,692 teachers for various classes. Now, the details of the new recruitment drive including subject-wise teacher vacancies and salary have been finalized by the Education Department.

The Education Department has said that there is a need for effective intervention in the management and quality improvement of government schools of Bihar. To fulfil the requirements, the Bihar government is recruiting new teachers under the ‘Bihar State School Teachers (Appointment, Transfer, Disciplinary Proceedings and Service Conditions) Rules, 2023’.

While the ongoing recruitment drive of 1.70 lakh teachers is mainly for government primary schools (classes 1 to 5), the Bihar government is now looking for TGTs for classes 6 to 8 and PGTs for classes 9 to 12. As per the reports, of the 69,692 vacancies, nearly 32,000 or 45 per cent of teachers will be recruited for Classes 6 to 8.
