Generative AI for Car Design Innovation: A lot of things can be automated using generative AI, but it’s hard to say exactly where the limits are. As of now, it seems to be vehicles. Recent reports state that Japanese car companies are using generative AI to streamline the development process for new models.

In addition to improving efficiency, generative AI can potentially reduce planning and design times by 50% by creating new variations based on existing data.

As part of its joint venture with Sony, Honda is also using generative AI to develop advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) for its upcoming AFEELA model.

As part of their AI training program, Subaru and Mazda are taking a slightly comprehensive approach. The Subaru company has launched a program to train over 4,000 engineers in generative AI, while Mazda is requiring AI training by 2025 for all indirect employees in its design and experimental departments.

A realistic timeline and rapidly developing AI technology can propel Mazda to its forecasted numbers. We can just wait and see what happens. Mazda’s ultimate goal is to double overall production efficiency by 2030. That’s a big goal, but a realistic timeframe and rapidly developing AI technology can propel the company to its forecasted numbers.

One thing is certain – generative AI will undoubtedly play a key role in accelerating innovation and potentially transforming transportation as car companies race to develop electric vehicles and autonomous driving features.

If AI plays a role in creating special car designs and functionality that we haven’t yet thought of, imagine being able to say, “My car was designed by Artificial Intelligence.” It could be a flex, or not.
