World Sight Day 2024: World Sight Day is a significant event observed every October to spread awareness about the importance of eyes and encourage people to take proper eye care.

Eyes are a very important part of our body without them human beings wouldn’t be able to witness this beautiful world. However, the eyes are also the most sensitive part of our body as it gets damaged easily, if you consume content for a long time on a daily basis.

However, just like World Eye Day’ or ‘World Vision Day’, this day was also formed to encourage people to think about their eye health and take proper measures on time to avoid to prevent their eyes from getting damaged.

World Sight Day is observed every year on October 10th. This year, World Sight Day will be celebrated on Thursday, October 10, 2024.

World Sight Day 2024 History

World Sight Day was established by the Lions Club Foundation and was first observed on 1984. Later on, it became a part of VISION 2020 and was managed by the the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB).

Since then, World Sight Day is celebrated on a large scale in different parts of the World.

During that time, Queen of the United Kingdom also recognized World Sight Day as an special event and joined campaign to spread awareness about the World Sight Day in 2020.

The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) which was founded in 1975 is an oragnisation for for eye health.

The website reads, “IAPB is recognised as a global leader in eye health advocacy, co-ordinating major campaigns such as World Sight Day (WSD) and leading initiatives like 2030 In Sight, the UN Friends of Vision group, VISION 2020 and Vision for the Commonwealth.”

World Sight Day 2024 Significance

As per the World Health Organization report, at least 2.2 billion people around he world has eye problems and at least 1 billion people eye loss could have been prevented or yet to be fixed.

That is why World Sight Day was formed to encourage governments, organisation, institutions, and individuals to come together so that everyone can have access to eye health care. There are over 150 IAPB member organizations including biggest eye care NGOs, world’s largest ophthalmology and optometry groups, teaching hospitals, and many others.

World Sight Day teach people the importance of taking care of their eye and even spreading awareness to others about eye health.
