RK Damani- Introduction 

Radhakishan S Damani was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India on July 12th, 1955. Damani is an Indian-born entrepreneur who is the co-founder and CEO of Dmart, an e-commerce company.

Damani is also an investor and advisor to several technology start-ups. Damani started his career working for an advertising agency and then went on to found two successful companies.

RK Damani’s Early Life 

RK Damani was born to a family of artisans who made pottery and textiles. Damani grew up in a rural area and began his artistic training at the age of eleven. Damani’s early education took place at the Mumbai Scottish School, a British-based international school. 

Damani is married to Shri Kanta Devi, with whom he has three children. In 1977, Damani enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley, where he received a B.S. in electrical engineering. After his father’s death, he left his previous business of ball bearing and became an investor and stock, market broker.

RK Damani’s Career

In 1991, Damani co-founded Dmart, an online marketplace that sold electronics and digital products. The company grew rapidly; by 1997, it had become India’s leading e-commerce company. In 1999, Damani was listed on the Forbes India list of the richest Indians, and by 2000, Dmart had revenues of $200 million.

Damani has worked as a professor at the University of California, Davis since 1995, where he is currently the John C. Hennessy Professor of Computer Science.

He is also the founder and director of the Institute for Parallel, Distributed, and Network-Based Systems.

RK Damani’s Achievements 

Damani has been a vocal advocate for the growth of the Indian technology sector. He has been a member of the board of directors for several technology companies and has also been an advisor to several start-ups.

Damani is best known for his work in the technology sector. RK Damani has been ranked at position 98 in the world’s billionaire’s index. There have been more than 230 DMarts all over India.
