The CBSE Class 12 History (Theory) exam comprises 80 marks, and candidates are allotted a total of 3 hours, with an additional 15 minutes for reading the question paper. History is a subject that holds significant weightage for students in the Humanities stream. Despite its reputation for being time-consuming and lengthy, with adequate practice and a well-thought-out strategy, students can achieve impressive scores in this subject. Engaging in sample papers is an effective method to prepare, providing insight into the expected content in the main examination.

General Instructions

  • The question paper is divided into five sections, namely A, B, C, D, and E, comprising a total of 34 compulsory questions.
  • In Section A, Questions 1 to 21 consist of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) with each question carrying a weight of 1 mark.
  • Section B encompasses Questions 22 to 27, categorized as Short Answer Type Questions, and each question holds a value of 3 marks. Responses for these questions should be limited to 60-80 words.
  • Questions 28 to 30 in Section C are designated as Long Answer Type Questions, each carrying a weightage of 8 marks. Responses to these questions should be restricted to 300-350 words.
  • Section D comprises Questions 31 to 33, characterized as Source-based questions with three sub-questions, and each question carries 4 marks.
  • Section E features Question 34, a Map-based question worth 5 marks, which involves the identification and location of significant test items. The map should be attached to the answer book.
  • While there is no overall choice in the question paper, internal choices are provided in certain questions. For these questions, candidates are required to attempt only one of the choices.

Tips to Score Maximum Marks in Class 12 History Board Exam

  1. Solve papers from the past 10 years and sample papers as part of your preparation for board exams.
  2. When categorizing questions by topic, also categorize them by type, such as multiple-choice questions (MCQs), short answer, very short answer, and long answer questions.
  3. Practice with sample papers is crucial for understanding the current question paper patterns and pinpointing areas where you need improvement.
  4. The skill of writing answers is vital and can only be developed through consistent practice.
  5. Keep your notes neat, and incorporate flow charts and diagrams whenever applicable.
