Kanuma Panduga 2023

Kanuma Panduga 2023: Kanuma Panduga is a holiday in the language of Telugu that is held as part of the celebrations for Makar Sankranti. The event starts on the third day of the four-day Sankranti festival in Andhra Pradesh. “Cow festival” is another name for the event.

When is the Kanuma Panduga?

In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the holiday of Makara Sankranti lasts for four days. People usually get rid of old things and burn them on Day 1, which is called Bhogi. This is meant to remind people to focus on new things in their lives. On Day 2, Makara Sankranti, people buy new clothes, make traditional dishes, and decorate their homes with flowers and rangoli. Today is Day 3, and tomorrow is Day 4.

The history of Kanuma

Many years ago, people in Gokulam believed that the tall Govardhan Hills stopped the clouds, which is why it never rained there. This made the people miserable.

When Lord Krishna saw this, he told the people to pray to Govardhan Hill for rain, which they did. This made Lord Indra, who is known as the God of Rain, very angry. For this insult, Lord Indra made it rain and storm hard, flooding the town and killing everyone who lived there and their animals. But Lord Krishna saved them and moved the Govardhan Hills with his little finger so that all the people who were in danger could stay safe. When Lord Indra realized what he had done wrong, he stopped the heavy rain from hitting Gokulam town.

And Lord Krishna did a Govardhan Puja for Indra to make him feel better. The Kanuma fair has been held every year since then to remember this event. Farmers get up very early to bathe, decorate, and paint the horns of their cattle on this day because it is a day to honor the cattle. After this, they are taken to nearby churches where worship practices are held for them. The fighting and betting on the cattle are two more great things about Kanuma Festival.
