The official death toll among Palestinians in Gaza due to the Israel-Hamas dispute has crossed 17,700 deaths according to the Health Ministry in the Hamas controlled region.

The ministry has also said that out of 17,700 40 percent were children below 18. Israel’s military operations in the southern Gaza Strip surged on Saturday, marked by big airstrikes and artillery bombing.

This happened a day when the United States used its veto power to stop a United Nations resolution which is favored by nearly all other security council members and a lot of other nations demanding an instant ceasefire in Gaza.

Israel has confirmed the loss of 97 soldiers in the ground offensive following an attack by Hamas on southern Israel earlier on 7th October. That attack caused the deaths of over 1200 Israelis, mostly civilians, and the seizure of around 240 hostages.

The concerns about a wider dispute, Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen which threaten to stop any ship heading to Israeli ports from passing through the Red Sea and Arabian Sea until the food and medicine can enter Gaza freely. With only a dribble of humanitarian aid reaching a small part of Gaza, residents have also reported critical food shortages.

Regardless of increasing international pressure, American President Joe Biden’s administration has remained against a negotiable cease-fire, arguing that it can allow Hamas to continue to cause a threat to Israel. The administration also accepted the emergency sale to Israel of nearly 14,000 rounds of tank ammunition worth more than 106 million dollars.

Hospitals in Gaza have reported around 133 dead bodies on Saturday

The Health Ministry in the Hamas-run territory said this Saturday that from past 24 hours, the two hospitals in central and southern Gaza have received the bodies of around 133 people who were killed in Israeli bombings over the past 24 hours.

And seventy-one bodies were brought to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital which is in the central city of Deir al-Balah. This hospital also received around 160 wounded people. And a lot of people were holding funeral prayers on Saturday morning in the hospital’s courtyard, before taking the bodies to the funeral. This scene has become a daily routine in Gaza for over past two months of the war.

And in the southern city of Khan Younis, which has been the focus of Israel’s military operations for the past week, Nasser Hospital has received the bodies of around 62 people. The hospital, which is one of the main medical facilities still operating in southern Gaza, that hospital also has received around 99 wounded people.
