International Anti-corruption Day: The International Anti-Corruption Day is celebrated every year on 9th December. The aim main of honoring this day is to create awareness of a corruption-free society. Everyone is aware that corruption affects all sides of society. So we must devote ourselves to eliminating and challenging corruption together. The primary purpose of this day is to make people aware of the consequences of engaging in corruption and uplift them to adopt a moral path in their lives.
About Corruption
Corruption is a very serious crime that can undercut many social and economic development in all societies. No country, region, or community is resistant to corruption. Corruption is found in all parts of the world whether it is political, social, or economic which pressurizes and undercuts the democratic institutions, contributes the governmental instability, and slows down the economic development of the country.
In simple words, we can say that corruption is cheating or double-dealing which is done by those who are in power, typically involving corruption which is the confide misuse of power for private gain and can happen in many forms. It corrodes the fabric of society. It takes away people’s freedom, health, money, and sometimes their life as well.
International Anti-corruption Day History
International Anti-corruption Day was established on 9th October 2003 by the General Assembly of the United Nations as a way of increasing awareness of corruption and highlighting the role of the United Nations Assembly against corruption in combating and stopping it.
The major reason of UN created this day is that they were very worried about the seriousness of problems and threats which is created by corruption to the reliability and safety of society, debilitating the institutions and values of democracy, ethical values, and justice and imperiling sustainable development and the rule of law.
Since the first year, the day’s organizers, the United Nations Development Program and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, say that the intolerance towards corruption has grown. This is confirmed by the growing number of politicians and chief executives who are tried and convicted for the crime.
And at last, On Anti-corruption Day every person, and even organizations should take oath to not participate in any type of corruption. While fighting against corruption is difficult, but it is not impossible if everyone chooses to say no and refuse to go into corruption. Also, any kind of corruption or misuse of a public office that results in the completion of a selfish objective is illegal in law.
