Hans Raj Hans, who had a successful career as a singer, initially joined the Shiromani Akali Dal before transitioning into politics (SAD). In 2009, he contested to win a seat in the Lok Sabha by standing for election as a candidate for the Jalandhar constituency but was unsuccessful.
In the later years, he shifted his loyalty to Congress, but it was only for a limited time. After this brief association with the Congress party, he decided to join the BJP, stood for election to the Lok Sabha from the North West Delhi constituency in 2019, and ultimately won.

Hans entered politics first, in 2009 when he joined the SAD party. His leanings toward the party were already quite strong. The SAD government’s 2001 decision to designate him Raj Gayak (the state singer) caused fierce dispute. After that, in the year 2002 assembly election, Hans stood as a candidate for the SAD.
He was fielded as a candidate for the SAD from the Jalandhar constituency the same year that he joined, however, he finally was short of votes. Dissatisfied with the Badal family’s leadership of SAD, he resigned in 2014. Reportedly, he was frustrated that he did not win the jackpot again.

His wife is Resham Kaur Hans, and Hans Raj is the father of two children named Navraj Hans and Yuvraj Hans. Navraj Hans married Ajit Kaur, who was Daler Mehandi’s only child.
His younger son, Yuvraj Hans, tied the knot with Mansi Sharma. “Jogian Da Kanna Vich” was the title of Hans’s first studio album, which was released in 1983.
His first attempt at writing music was, the song “Shahied-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Di Ghori.” Almost immediately after that, he released a cornucopia of Sufi, religious, and Punjabi folk music.
