Gurdas Maan is an Indian playback singer, lyricist, and actor best known for his work in movies and music in Punjabi and Hindi. In 1980, he attracted widespread fame because of the song “Dil Da Mamla Hai.”
Early life: Giddarbaha, Punjab, is the hometown of Maan. He was born to Gurdev Singh and Tej Kaur. He attended Giddarbaha institutions for his primary education before completing his studies at DAV College in Malout. From an early age, he was drawn to music and mimicry.

Maan began his career working for the Power Board after receiving an offer from the officials he met during a singing competition. A producer asked him in 1980 to sing “Dil Da Mamla Hai” on DD National.
Recognition and honors
Maan is the only singer from Punjab to receive the national Best Male Playback Singer award at the 54th National Film Awards. Maan’s performance of Heer in ‘Waris Shah, Ishq Daa Waaris’ helped to create the complete story. The movie was also nominated in the General Category for the Academy Awards. On behalf of Golden Palms Entertainment Inc., India Waves TV, a San Francisco-based media organization, pioneered the formal entry from the United States.
Maan’s famous song “Dil Da Mamla Hai” catapulted him to prominence. Soon after that followed “Mamla Gadbad Hai” and “Chhalla,” the latter of which was recorded by Maan under the famous Jagjit Singh’s music direction and is the popular movie song from the Punjabi film “Laung Da Lishkara” (1986).
On the other hand, Maan has acted in popular Bollywood films and has won various accolades, including the Jury’s Award, which was given to him by the Indian president in 2005. On Coke Studio MTV Season 4 with artist Diljit Dosanjh, he also performed the well-known song Ki Banu Duniya Da. On YouTube, the song had more than 32 million views a week after its release on August 15, 2015.
For Boot Polish, he received “Best International Album” at the UK Asian Music Awards in 2009.
He received the ‘Filmfare Award for Living Legend’ in 2017 at the inaugural Filmfare Awards a Punjabi ceremony.

He is married to Manjeet Maan, and the couple has a son named Gurickk Maan, who is married to the actress Simran Kaur Mundi.
On January 20, 2007, Maan was involved in a car accident where his Range Rover was extensively damaged by a truck that struck it in a village close to Karnal, Haryana, India. Maan escaped with just a few scratches on his face, hands, and chest. Ganesh, his driver, suffered terrible injuries but shortly recovered.
