Google expands Search Generative Experience – SGE – to 130 more countries, introduces new features

Google, the search engine giant, announced that it has expanded the Search Generative Experience beta to 120 or so countries and territories. The IT firm also announced the inclusion of four new languages.

Aiming better user experience, the search engine also added new follow-up questions, AI-powered translation help and more interactive definitions in AI-powered overviews.

In a blog on its website, Google said, “Starting first in English in the United States, and we will continue to iterate on this experience.”

Bringing generative AI in Search to more than 120 new countries and adding support for four new languages, Google said.

This expands Search Generative Experience to Mexico, Brazil, South Korea, Indonesia, Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa.

The company said sometimes, translating from one language to another involves a bit of guesswork.

“For instance, in many languages, a single word can have multiple meanings that standard translation tools won’t necessarily detect. Let’s say you want to translate “is there a tie?” from English to Spanish. It seems straightforward, but it’s possible that the word tie could refer to either a piece of clothing or a contest with no winner,” it added.

New Follow-up Interface in SGE

The company said when users explore a topic within Search Generative Experience, they can easily see their prior questions and search results.

The Generative AI in Search helps one avoid that ambiguity. Soon, if a user asks Search to translate a phrase where certain words could have more than one possible meaning, he would see those terms underlined.The latest feature will allow the users to tap any of those words and they could indicate the specific meaning that reflects what they want to say.

This option may also appear when user needs to specify the gender for a particular word.

Translation SGE

The Google said, the AI-powered translation capability is coming soon to the United States for English-to-Spanish translations. The IT company plans to cover more countries and languages in the near future.

In August, Google added a new, interactive way to see definitions for educational topics — like science, economics, or history — on AI-powered overviews.

Now, Google is extending this functionality to more areas, including coding and health information.

On relevant searches, users will see certain words highlighted.

so the users can hover over them to preview their definition or view related images. This update is rolling out over the next month, in English in the United States, with more countries and languages expected to follow soon.
