It’s usually too late to find survivors three days after a big earthquake. Still, the old woman was trapped under the rubble of a house for five days in Suzu, which is on the badly damaged Noto Peninsula. She was finally rescued on Saturday.
Public television station NHK says she was taken to the hospital and was able to talk. “Hang in there!” rescuers were heard calling to the woman in police footage from the rainy scene published by local media. “You’re gonna be OK!” they shouted. “Stay positive!”
