National Sweetest Day 2024 History
National Sweetest Day was established by Cleveland Confectioners in October 1921 to celebrate people’s love for sweets and distribute sweets to others. It is believed that this day was formed to encourage women to give sweets to their romantic partners as a token of love and appreciation.
On the first celebration of National Sweetest Day, a total of 20,000 boxes of candy were distributed across the Ohio city to show love for sweets. These sweets were distributed among newsboys, the elderly, the poor, and orphans to help them celebrate the “National Sweetest Day” of the year.
Since then, National Sweetest Day received widespread recognition and has been observed in big cities like New York and Detroit to spread the love for candies and enjoy the delicious taste of sweets.
In 1927, the New York Times recognized to celebrate a “Sweetest Week” and after ten years the same newspaper said that candidates’ companies are trying to add National Sweetest Day to the calendar along with significant days such as Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day.
